Both are brightening superstars — but vitamin C and niacinamide do slightly different jobs. Here's how to pick (or use both).
Vitamin C — the glow-booster
Vitamin C is the punchy antioxidant that wakes up dull skin and dials up radiance, evening the look of tone and dark spots. Best used in the morning under SPF. Great if your main goal is glow + brightness. (See vitamin C serums.)
Niacinamide — the gentle all-rounder
Niacinamide (vitamin B3) is the low-drama multitasker: it refines the look of pores, balances shine and evens tone, and suits even sensitive skin. Great if your goals are pores, oil and even tone. (See pores & texture.)
Can you use both?
Yes — a classic combo is vitamin C in the AM (with SPF) and niacinamide any time. If your skin is easily irritated, start with niacinamide; it's the friendlier entry point.
Quick pick
- Want radiance / fade dark spots? → Vitamin C.
- Want smaller-looking pores, less shine, even tone? → Niacinamide.
- Want it all? → Both, spaced through your routine.
